Key Stage 1
Welcome to Key Stage One!
Our Key Stage 1 children are taught in three classes:
- Year 1- Elm class
- Year 1- Willow class
- Year 2- Lime class
In KS1, our curriculum is enriched with practical and hands-on activities, which meet the needs of the children. Our aim is to continue to strengthen our children’s love of learning, that has been developed in Reception through our play-based, explorative approach and further enhanced in Year 1 by our nurturing environment that promotes independence and curiosity. We actively encourage our children to be curious, and support them to ask and answer questions in their learning through exploration, and well-planned lessons that develop their critical thinking and reasoning skills, and this, alongside our continued prioritisation of developing reading fluency, prosody and comprehension, ensures that all of our children have both a love of reading and are able to access the wider curriculum with ease.

KS1 Summer term Curriculum map
Useful Information
PE Days:
Year 1 have PE on Monday
Year 2 (Lime) have PE on Wednesday
Year 2 (Birch) have PE on Wednesday
We ask that children wear their school PE kit to school on their designated PE day. Earrings must be removed and hair tied back please.
Reading
Your child will be given a reading book and a phonics book to challenge their current reading level. Children can change their books regularly. They will also be given access to a wide range of books through the Bug Club (ActiveLearn - see the link below). Please listen to your children read as often as possible and ask them questions about what they have read. Children will also receive a library book. Your child has chosen their own library book, which will be a book for them to read to boost their reading for pleasure. They may need support when reading these books.
Maths
Homework is set online on a Friday to be completed by the following Friday.
The following site can be accessed by the children at home. Please ask the classteacher for a password.
